Virat Kohli's herculean unbeaten 82-run knock against Pakistan is already considered one of the best knocks in T20 World Cup history. Kohli’s match-winning effort helped him storm into the top 10 T20I rankings.
Kohli climbed five places to reach ninth spot. The 33-year-old is the second Indian batter in top 10 rankings. Now, Kohli has 635 rating points, 23 points behind Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka who has 658 rating points.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav slipped one place after a disappointing score against Pakistan as New Zealand opener Devon Conway rose three spots after a match-winning 92-run knock against Australia. Conway’s rise also meant that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and South Africa’s Aiden Markram slip one place as well.
Kohli’s unbeaten 82 helped India beat Pakistan by three wickets in a run chase that went right down to the wire at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23. Kohli will have another chance to move up the rankings when India take on Netherlands on October 27 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
In the bowling rankings, Afghanistan leggie Rashid Khan dethroned Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood from the top. Rashid had a chance to extend the lead on October 26 at the MCG but the Super 12 game against New Zealand was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain.
Rashid is just ahead of Hazlewood with 702 rating points. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga slipped three places after a horror show against Australia. Hasaranga conceded 53 runs from three overs on October 25.
As a result, South Africa's Tabraiz Shamsi, Afghanistan's Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Sri Lanka's Maheesh Theekshana gained one spot each. The only Indian bowler in the top 10 bowlers rankings is Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was exception against Pakistan with the new ball.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin slipped one place after an ordinary display against Pakistan. Ashwin is now placed 21 on the rankings. However, he made up for it with the match-winning single off the final ball of the innings.
