Australia joined India in Under-19 World Cup final after beating Pakistan by just one wicket in a low-scoring semifinal thriller on February 8 as they chased down the 180-run target in the final over. 

 

India's undefeated streak in Under-19 World Cup 2024

 

Throughout the Under-19 World Cup 2024, India have displayed formidable prowess, culminating in a victory over hosts South Africa in the semifinal. Ahead of the tournament's final showdown, Captain Uday Saharan expressed the team's aspiration to clinch the championship, emphasizing their desire to make history once again.

 

India set sights on record sixth Under-19 World Cup title

 

With five titles already under their belt in the Under-19 world Cup history, India are vying for a record sixth glory. As the reigning champions from the 2022 edition, where they emerged victorious over England in the final, India aims to maintain their dominance in youth cricket.

 

''It is a dream for all of us to win this tournament. Everyone gets only one Under-19 World Cup and we want to repeat the history. We also want to register our names in history. We are focused on giving our best,'' Saharan told PTI in an interview.

'I would like to tell the countrymen to continue supporting us like this. We promise to give everything to bring the Cup back," he added.

 

India's dominant showing in the Under-19 World Cup 2024 was underscored by three victories with margins exceeding 200 runs. As they head into the final, they anticipate a formidable challenge from Australia's potent bowling lineup. In the semi-final against Pakistan, Australia's Tom Straker earned the player of the match award, for his stunning sixfer. 

 

Uday Saharan confident of title glory

 

However, Saharan, who has scored 389 runs in six matches so far, exhibited confidence in his team's abilities, expressing unwavering support for their performance in the upcoming final.

''The secret to our team's good performance is team bonding. The atmosphere in the dressing room is very friendly. Everyone trusts each other and is ready to help each other. That is why the performance graph has been consistently good,'' said Saharan.

''We are not focusing on rival team, we are concentrating on our own game. We have made a match-by-match strategy and are taking every match seriously,'' Saharan signed off.
