India captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s 52 runs off 32 balls and Jemimah Rodrigues' 43 runs off 24 balls went in vain as the Women in Blue lost the crunch semi-final game by five runs against defending champions Australia at Newlands, Cape Town. Meg Lanning-led Australia continued their dominance as they continued their unbeaten run to enter their seventh consecutive T20 World Cup final.
At one stage, the Women in Blue were on track to register a win over the Baggy Greens but a 'unlucky' run out changed the entire complexion of the game. Harmanpreet, who was batting like a dream, was dismissed after her bat got stuck to the ground while trying to complete a second run.
Reacting to the Indian skipper's dismissal, former England captain Nasser Hussain termed it as a 'school girl error' while doing commentary. Harmanpreet, however, didn't agree with Hussain's assessment.
"He said that? Yes. Okay. I don't know. That is a way of thinking. I don't know. But sometimes it happens. I have seen many times in cricket when batters are taking a single like that and sometimes the bat is stuck there. But obviously, I will take it as we were unlucky today," the Indian skipper said during a media interaction.
"Maybe something still, we have to improve to go to the finals because we definitely didn't field badly. We didn't bowl well in patches. Sometimes we didn't bat well. If you want to win any game, we have to do well in all the departments. Then only you have more chances to go to the semis, to the finals. I think it was unlucky but I don't think it was a mistake by a schoolgirl because we are mature enough. We are playing international cricket and whatever he said, that's his way of thinking. But I don't think it was like that," Harmanpreet added.
