Indian fans lash out at ICC for comparing Dhoni's 2019 heartbreak to Harmanpreet's dismissal

When India were drawn against Australia in the semi-final of the Women's T20 World Cup, many thought it would be a difficult task for Harmanpreet Kaur's side to beat the defending champions. After the first innings, the odds went against India but Harmanpreet's outstanding innings brought India closer to the target. Harmanpreet's inclusion was doubtful due to illness but the captain led India from the front with a fighting 52-run knock but the way she was dismissed, brought back the memories of 2019 and ICC didn't shy away from reminding the Indian fans about it.

When Harmanpreet looked in command of the match, a rather bizarre turn of events at Newlands saw India crash out of the World Cup semifinal. Harmanpreet was sent back to the dugout after her bat got jammed in the wicket while she was completing a double run, leaving her short of the crease by inches. The Indian captain was furious following her weird dismissal. As the match ended, former Indian cricketer Anjum. Chopra came to console Harmanpreet, she couldn't hold back her tears as India missed the shot to final by the barest margin.

Something similar happened back in 2019 in the ODI World Cup and ICC took to Instagram and shared a video of Dhoni's run out against New Zealand alongside Harmanpreet's dismissal and captioned it - "Run outs that broke a million hearts."

After the match got over, Harmanpreet herself admitted that the run-out dismissal was the turning point in the match.

Here is how fans reacted

"It’s not a fair comparison. Both are entirely different. As I see she was entirely wrong to keep running fast in this crucial situation, being careless is the reason for this runout. It’s not an Accusation over her but being more mature and being more careful on upcoming matches," replied one of the fans.

While another said, "It can't be comparable. Harmanpreet was too much casual, it was a two-run situation and Kaur also was not slow in running Between the wickets Dhoni wanted to take a tight second run and he almost gave his everything to run with his maximum speed but he failed. It can't be comparable anymore."
