In their second match of the 2023 women's Under-19 World Cup, India will cross swords against United Arab Emirates (UAE) at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on January 16 (Monday). India registered a comprehensive seven-wicket win against South Africa in their campaign opener on January 14 and are currently sitting at top of Group D. UAE heads into this fixture with high confidence as they defeated Scotland by six wickets in their campaign opener.
For India, the spot light will be on openers Shafali Verma and Shweta Sehrawat, both of whom played pulverising knocks in the previous game. Shweta and Shafali came out all guns blazing and utilised the field restrictions. The Indian skipper went berserk in the sixth over and hit Ntabiseng Nini for five consecutive fours followed by one six. However, Shafali missed her half-century as Miane Smit got her wicket in the eighth over. The opener scored 45 runs from 16 deliveries including nine fours and one six.
Sehrawat got to her half-century and hit as many as 20 fours in her unbeaten 57-ball 92 to help India win with 21 balls to spare in the Group D clash.
Indian bowlers, however, would look to be more disciplined in the powerplay overs as they were tonked for 64 runs in the first six overs by South African batters.
