Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof proved on the biggest stage of world cricket that there is enough cricket left in her. Playing her first tournament after giving birth to her daughter Fatima, Bismah scored an unbeaten 78 into her second match in Women’s World Cup 2022. After reaching her half-century, Bismah did the cradle (baby rocking) celebration, facing towards the dressing room where her mother was taking care of Fatima.

The 30-year-old rescued Pakistan from 44/4 and shared a 99-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Aliya Riaz. Bismah's unbeaten 78-run knock helped Pakistan post a respectable total of 190/6. It is also the second-highest score by a Pakistan batter in Women's World Cup. She missed the record by just two runs. Nahida Khan's 79 against South Africa in the previous edition of the mega event is on the top of the list.

“It was a special performance with my daughter around, I had to make it count,” she said in the post-match presentation.

The veteran Pakistan batter was allowed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) “to travel with a support person of her choice to assist in caring for her infant child”. The expenses of the support person (mother) will be shared between the PCB and her.

However, despite Bismah’s 78 not out, Pakistan were beaten by Australia comprehensively. With two consecutive losses, Pakistan are at the bottom of the points table.

Earlier, photos and clips of Indian players trying to entertain Bismah’s daughter outside the boundary made rounds on social media. Indian opener Smriti Mandhana hailed Bismah for making an inspirational comeback.

“Coming back post pregnancy in 6 months and playing international cricket is so inspiring. @bismahmaroof setting an example for sportswomen across the globe,” Smriti wrote in her Instagram story.

Also, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar lauded Indian players’ gesture despite the tension between the two nations.
