Ishan Kishan couldn't have got a bigger stage than the all-important World Test Championship (WTC) final to prove his prowess and establish himself as Team India's go to wicketkeeper-batter. KL Rahul's injury paved the path for Ishan Kishan who was included in Team India's Test squad for the marquee WTC final against Australia which is scheduled to be played between June 7 to June 11.
Meanwhile, Ishan's childhood coach Uttam Majumdar expressed is over the moon on the star batter's inclusion in India's squad. Majumdar has made a tall claim that Kishan can play a role like former Australian star wicketkeeper batsman Adam Gilchrist for India in the upcoming WTC final.
Majumdar, who taught Kishan the ABC of cricket since latter's childhood, in an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak said," See when KL Rahul got hurt and had to be ruled out, I had the belief that Ishan Kishan would get a chance. Now that he has been selected in India's Test squad for the WTC final, I would like him to get a chance in the playing XI as he always aspired to play Test cricket for Team India. If that happens on a big stage like the WTC final, it will be a big deal."
Talking about Kishan, he has the ability to bat sensibly as per the demand of the situation as he very well knows when to go steady and when to accelerate. Kishan took only 14 innings to crack a double century in ODIs, which shows his batting proficiency. He joined the likes of Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag who have scored the rare double hundreds in ODI cricket for India. Besides this, he also has an impressive First-Class track record. Ishan has so far scored 2985 runs in 48 matches for Jharkhand in Indian domestic cricket at an average of 38.76. Not just his batting, Kishan's wicketkeeping skills also makes him a good option for India for the WTC final's playing XI.
Kishan's coach Majumdar also said, "Just like Rishabh Pant, Kishan can also bat fearlessly at no.6 for Team India. Batting at no.5 and no.6 is quite challenging and is considered as important batting order. The teams get the second new ball at these batting order and according to me Kishan is fully prepared to handle this. What Adam Gilchrist did for Australia by coming and playing explosive knocks down the order in Test, Kishan will do the same for India. There is a similarity between Gilchrist and Kishan as far as batting style is concerned. If Kishan gets a chance, it will be a big moment for all of us."
India's squad for WTC final:
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan (wk).
