Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul underwent successful surgery on May 9. Rahul shared the update via his Instagram account. "I just got done with my surgery - it was successful," Rahul wrote in a post.
"A bit thank you to the doctors and medical staff for making sure I was comfortable and everything went smoothly."
"I'm officialy on the road to recovery now."
"I'm determined to get back to my best and get back on the field," Rahul further wrote.
Rahul suffered a thigh injury while trying to save a boundary against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He did not field for the rest of the innings. He did not come out to bat until the penultimate over and was in pain as he could not score a single run from three deliveries.
Following the game, Krunal Pandya took over LSG’s captaincy for the rest of the season. Few days later, Rahul ruled himself out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season and World Test Championship 2021-23 (WTC) final against Australia at the Oval starting June 7.
"Absolutely gutted that I won't be at the Oval next month with Team India. I'll do everything I can to get back in blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority," Rahul had said in a statement.
"After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it's been concluded that I'll be undergoing a surgery on my thigh shortly.
"My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. It's a tough call to make, but I know it's the right one to ensure a full recovery," he added.
Rahul was replaced by Ishan Kishan in the WTC final squad on May 9. Also, Suryakumar Yadav, Mukesh Kumar and Ruturaj Gaikwad was named as standbys.
LSG are currently placed fourth on the points table after a massive 56-run win to defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. LSG have 11 points from 11 games and will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their next clash at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on May 13.
