'Arrogance has crept into Indian cricket...no bright spot': Legendary West Indies cricketer rips apart Team India after WTC final debacle

Former West Indies cricketer and legendary bowler, Sir Andy Roberts launched a scathing attack on Team India while assessing their performance in the WTC final. Roberts opined that arrogance has crept into Indian cricket and that he saw no bright spot in the team's performance.

“There is this arrogance which has crept into Indian cricket and through this, India have underestimated the rest of the world. India must decide what their focus is: Test cricket or limited overs cricket. T20 cricket will run its course. There is no contest between bat and ball there,” Roberts told mid-day.

"I expected India to show their batting strength. I saw no bright spot in the final although Ajinkya Rahane fought hard; got hit on his hand. Shubman Gill looks good when he plays those shots, but he stands on leg stump and is often dismissed bowled or caught behind. He has good hands, but he must get behind the ball. Virat Kohli, though, got a brute of a delivery from Mitchell Starc in the first innings. India have some very good players mind you, but they have not performed creditably away from home," he added.

Team India's hopes of winning another ICC trophy came to a screeching halt after Australia thumped Rohit Sharma & Co. in the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval on June 11 (Sunday). India ended up losing the summit clash by a massive margin of 209 runs. As a result, the wait for another ICC title elongated further for India.

Australia were the better team throughout the five days of the WTC as India fell behind the eight-ball on the opening day of the final. From thereon, India was playing catch up but their dream of a miracle win came to an end after yet another batting collapse. Rohit & Co. were comprehensively beaten as they sustained a massive 209-run defeat in the Ultimate Test.
