In what came as a major boost to Australia ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India, former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower joined the Baggy Greens as a consultant. In a report published on Cricbuzz, Flower will assist the Australian coaching staff for the upcoming WTC final and the ensuing Ashes series. Flower's resume is flawless when it comes to coaching and he has an experience of more than a decade. Flower, who was an excellent servant of Zimbabwe cricket, scored 4,794 runs in 63 Test matches and 6,786 runs in 213 matches.
After a stellar career with Zimbabwe, Flower transitioned into a coach. The 55-year-old served as the head coach of England for five years between 2009 to 2014 and tasted immense success during his tenure. From thereon, Flower has worked with numerous T20 franchises around the world. His latest assignment came in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 where he served as the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Two of the top-ranked teams - India and Australia - will square off in the second edition of the WTC final at a neutral venue, making the contest even more compelling. It will be for the first time in two decades that India and Australia will lock horns in an ICC tournament final. The last time these two sides locked horns in an ICC final was in 2003 when Australia defeated India in the ODI World Cup final. The 2023 WTC final will be played between June 7 and June 11 at The Oval, London.
India finished runners-up in the last edition of WTC as they lost the final against New Zealand. This time, Rohit Sharma's brigade would look to cross the final hurdle and end their ICC trophy drought. Flower, on the flip side, will assist Australia in stopping India from winning the coveted title at The Oval.
