The former India captain stated that the moment the superstar batting duo agreed to feature in the three-match series against Australia, they made it clear that they have their sights set on the bigger goal, i.e. 2027 ODI World Cup. He views their participation as a statement that they wish to remain involved in the ODI setup and build towards another shot at the World Cup title.
“The moment they made themselves available for this trip, it was clear they want to be there for the 2027 World Cup. You can write their names straight into the World Cup squad: Gavaskar
Gavaskar emphatically stated that the current form of Rohit and Virat automatically solidifies their claim for selection in the next global tournament. "With this kind of form," Gavaskar declared, "you can write their names straight into the World Cup squad for South Africa 2027."
Rohit and Virat got off to a patchy start to the series. Hitman brilliantly rediscovered his rhythm, backing up a half-century in the second ODI with a fluent century in the decider at the SCG. His knock was a powerful reminder of the class and composure that have defined his entire ODI career. On the other hand, Virat endured a tougher beginning, registering back-to-back ducks in the opening matches. However, living up to his reputation, he bounced back strongly with a gritty fifty in the final ODI, contributing to India's win in the final ODI.
RO-KO's next assignment will the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, which is slated to start from November 30.
