IND vs AUS 3rd Test Day 4: Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team managed to avoid follow-on after successfully reaching the 246-run mark in reply to Australia's massive 445 in the first innings. India's batting struggles were once again highlighted as Australian bowlers pierce through their line-up during the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test which is being played at the Gabba Stadium in Brisbane. Rain has played a big effect throughout this match. However, crucial knocks from KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja followed by late heroic cameos from Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah helped India to be in a safe position in the match.
Australia post 445 runs
The Indian team wrapped the Australian innings on Day 3. Travis Head and Steve Smith's centuries followed by Alex Carey's 70 powered the hosts to a big score of 445 runs. The lower order showed resilience and added around 40 more runs on Day 3 providing the Aussies with a final boost. Jasprit Bumrah was once again the star performer for India as he finished with statistics of 6/76 in 28 overs.
India top-order collapse on Day 3
On Day 3, Mitchell Starc returned to action and once again gave Australia a great start by forcing Yashasvi Jaiswal to hit to Mitchell Marsh at mid-wicket with the second delivery of the innings. As he pursued a wide delivery from Starc that found his thick outside edge, Shubman Gill also left cheaply. Mitchell Marsh made an amazing grab leaping to his left as the ball flew towards the slips.
In the first session, Australia made yet another significant breakthrough when Josh Hazlewood exposed Virat Kohli's weakness outside off stump once again. As he discovered his edge, Pat Cummins also fired Rishabh Pant for the third time in the series.
KL Rahul and Jadeja hit crucial fifties
Rahul escaped getting out on the first ball of Day 4 and made the most out of it after playing an 84-run knock. Jadeja was another player who stood up and performed well with the bat as he played a crucial 77-run innings. However, despite their knocks India was under follow-on threat.
Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah's final-wicket heroics
India still needed 33 runs to avoid follow-on when Jadeja got out. They only had one wicket left and the last Indian pair of Bumrah and Akash Deep ensured that India would not be thrown on the backfoot. They joined a 39-run stand before umpires called for early stumps due to bad light. Both of them are still on the pitch with Deep batting on 27 and Bumrah on 10.
