Jasprit Bumrah-led Indian cricket team might have not performed that well with the bat but at the end of Day 1, it was the visitors that were in a dominant position. The first Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy which is being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth witnessed pacers dictating the game in both innings. First, it was the iconic Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc trio and later Bumrah and company which included Mohammed Siraj and debutant Harshit Rana.
India got all out for just 150
In Perth, India decided to bat first and were bowled for just 150. With Hazlewood leading the charge with four wickets and the others sharing two each, the Australian seam attack was too formidable to contain. There was a lot of movement on the pitch, as Australia applied constant pressure.
When Rishabh Pant played a few shots after lunch, India only momentarily gained momentum after starting carefully and attempting to weather the early storm. Together, they added 48 for the seventh wicket, and Nitish Reddy, who was making his debut, too showed promise, but otherwise, India had little to rejoice about.
India turn the tables with the ball
Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy's valiant and aggressive knock helped India reach the 150-run mark. However, it appeared low when the first innings came to an end but the Indian pacers made that 150 look like 300 on the Optus ground as Aussies could not stand in front of the Indian pace attack.
First, it was Bumrah who took three wickets and then got support from Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj who picked up crucial scalps as well. At the end of Day 1, Australia are at 67/7 and are trailing behind by 83 runs. Bumrah ended day 1 with four wickets, meanwhile, Siraj got two and Rana settled with 1.
