KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal thumped the Australian bowlers on Day 2 of the opening Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia which is being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth, on November 23. The new Indian opening pair not only remained unbeaten at the time of stumps but also completely frustrated the Aussie bowling attack which could not find a single breakthrough.
The first day of the Test saw a fall of 17 wickets and on Day 2 only 3 wickets fell that too of the Aussie tailenders. Both Rahul and Jaiswal completed their fifties during their historic 172-run partnership. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul became the first Indian opening pair in the last two decades to score a century stand in Test cricket on Australian soil. The last time it happened was back in 2004 between Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra.
Jaiswal and Rahul eye history
Their current 172-run stand is the second-highest opening partnership between Indian openers. The list is topped by a 191-run stand between Sunil Gavaskar and K Srikkanth back in 1986. The duo of Rahul and Jaiswal needs 20 more runs to break this record and script their name in history books.
India had a major boost on their hand with a 46-run lead. However, they still needed a good start to avoid what happened in the first inning and this time it was ensured by both Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. Both of them joined 172 runs by stumps and extended India's lead to 218 runs.
The way both of them demonstrated their composure and progressed the scoreboard it did not appear as if it was the same pitch where earlier India and Australia got all out for 150 and 104 respectively in the first innings. Cummins have used 7 bowlers till now and even made Labuschagne and Head in order to get the breakthrough but none of it seemed to work in the favour of the hosts.
