India's star batter Sai Sudharsan recently underwent a successful surgery for sports hernia and has shared an update on his health through social media. He posted a picture of himself from the operation room, smiling and expressed his thankse to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) franchise for their continuous support during this difficult time.
Sai Sudharsan undergoes successful surgery
“Will be back stronger in no time. A big thank you to the medical team and BCCI for their efforts and support. Thank you, Titans family, for your love and support,” Sudharsan tweeted on X.
Before undergoing surgery, Sudharsan was a member of the India A team that faced Australia A in a series leading up to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Batting at the crucial number three position, Sudharsan shone with a century in the second match of the series. His impressive show with the bat made him a strong contender for the same spot in India's senior team, potentially replacing Shubman Gill. However, the selectors ended up going for Devdutt Padikkal to fill the number three position in the first Test at Optus Stadium, Perth.
Following his return from the India A tour, Sudharsan underwent surgery. But the specific details of the surgery have not been disclosed. While it hasn't been officially confirmed, it appears that Sudharsan underwent surgery in England. He tagged Naeem Amin, the assistant coach of the Gujarat Titans during the IPL 2024 season and the owner of a cricket academy in London, in his social media post.
The exact recovery timeline for Sudharsan still remains uncertain. However, it's highly likely that he will miss the opening round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, which is scheduled to begin on December 21. If Tamil Nadu make it to the knockout stage , which is scheduled for January 12-18, there's a possibility that Sudharsan could make a return.
Sudharsan will look to recover before the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as Gujarat Titans retained him for a whopping Rs 8.5 crore ahead of the mega auction in Jeddah.
Talking about GT's squad, they were active bidders during the two-day IPL 2025 mega auction, acquiring 20 new players. They bought some superstar players in Jos Buttler, Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj.
