Mohammed Siraj reacts on ICC's fine following verbal spat with Travis Head
However, it was Siraj who dealt with the harsher punishment than Head. While ICC slapped Siraj with 20 per cent of his match fee, Head was reprimanded for abusing a player during the match. There was just one common factor between the two, both Siraj and Head received one demerit point each after the verbal altercation during the Adelaide Test.
Meanwhile, during India's nets session, Mohammed Siraj has quizzed by media about the incident and fine, to which he said:
“Yeah man, it’s all good”.
The star pacer was again asked if he was by the ICC's decision.
“I am going to the gym now,” Siraj replied.
The on-field verbal altercation following Siraj dismissed Head generated big buzz on social media and became a talk of the town.
Siraj was fined 20 per cent of his match fee for using language and gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from the batter. Head, on the other hand, was reprimanded for abusing a player during the match. But what left the fans debating over the issue was why Head was treated differently.
The ICC clarified the disparity in penalties by explaining that Siraj's actions were considered more provocative as they occurred immediately after dismissing Head. Such behavior is seen as a direct violation of the spirit of the game and is therefore subject to stricter penalties. Head's response, while inappropriate, was viewed as a reaction to Siraj's provocation and thus warranted a less severe punishment.
"Siraj has been penalised 20% of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal," ICC's statement read.
"Head too was sanctioned for breaching Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the “abuse of a player, player support personnel, umpire or match referee during an international match. Siraj and Head received one demerit point each on their disciplinary records, marking their first offence within the last 24 months. Both players admitted their respective offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle," the statement further added.
However the duo buried their hatched and hugged it out after the conclusion of the second Test in Adelaide, which India lost by 10 wickets. All eyes will on third Test in Gabba, which will stage India versus Australia's third Test which is set to start from December 14.
