The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that India captain Rohit Sharma will lead the team in the upcoming pink ball Test which will take place in Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10. Team India are currently leading 1-0 in the five-Test match series.
India made a great comeback from a series whitewash against New Zealand on home soil, defeating Australia by 295 runs in Perth despite being bowled out for 150 runs in their first innings.
Speaking to ANI, Rajeev Shukla said that the triumph over Australia in Perth was of great importance. He added that both the Indian bowlers and batters performed well in the game.
"The victory in Perth is of great importance. Our bowlers and batsmen played very well...Rohit Sharma will be playing the second test as the Captain...," Rajeev Shukla told ANI.
India captain Rohit who was on a break has joined the squad in Perth and was spotted practising in the nets. He was also spotted with the Indian squad when they defeated Australia in Perth Test.
In the first Test match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and opted to bat. However, the batters failed to perform as the top order flopped and the whole team was dismissed for just 150 runs, with Nitish Kumar Reddy (41 off 59 balls, six fours and a six) and Rishabh Pant (37 off 78 balls, three fours and a six) playing crucial knocks and adding a vital 48-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
Australia's Josh Hazlewood (4/29) was the pick of the bowlers and Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh, and Mitchell Starc picked two wickets each.
Australia's batters were even worse as they bundled out on just 104. Bumrah was the standout performer claiming five wickets in 18 overs.
In the second innings, India openers KL Rahul and Yashavi Jaiswal put up a 201-run opening partnership. After that Virat Kohli got his mojo back smashing unbeaten 100 that helped India to set a daunting target of 534 runs for Australia.
