Australia captain Pat Cummins heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah for his outstanding bowling show in the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. However, Cummins doesn't emphathise with for Bumrah's team despite their valiant efforts. The lack of empathy was particularly difficult for Indian fans to accept, as Bumrah, despite his exceptional performance with the ball, found himself on the losing side. The Australian team dominated the match, and eventually they reaped the harvest for it by clinching resounding 184-run win in the crucial fourth Test at the MCG to take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
Pat Cummins doesn't have empathy for Jasprit Bumrah after India's MCG Test defeat
Jasprit Bumrah looked like a lone warrior for Team India in the MCG Test. Despite not getting support from his fellow bowlers, Bumrah kept on testing Australia batters with his relentless pace and skill. He consistently troubled the Australian batting lineup, creating opportunities for his team, but all his efforts went in vain.
With the burden of the bowling attack largely falling on his shoulders, Bumrah tirelessly toiled throughout the match. Despite the evident fatigue, he didn't let the intensity drop even for a bit. Although he conceded some runs in the first innings, he still managed to claim four crucial wickets.
Bumrah doubled up his efforts in the second innings and produced another five-wicket haul, bringing his team back into the contest. Despite bowling an incredible 53 overs, Bumrah's valiant efforts were ultimately overshadowed by the disappointing performances of the Indian batters, resulting in a big defeat.
Meanwhile, Cummins openly laud Bumrah's effort and said that the star pacer has been India's most influential player who made Australia batters' life difficult on the pitch.
"Yeah, he's, you know, obviously a really good bowler in great form. You know, he's been their most influential player. He's made it difficult for us at times. You know, I thought all their bowlers bowled really well yesterday," Cummins said in the post-match press conference.
"Again, I don't think the pitch was doing too much, but they made it really tough for us and toiled hard. So I thought, yeah, they all bowled quite well. You know, he, in particular, poses the biggest threat," Cummins added.
But best of Cummins was yet to come in the presser. When asked about whether he felt empathy for Bumrah despite his exceptional performance in a losing effort, Australian captain bluntly replied, "Empathy? Not too much, no."
Meanwhile, both the teams will lock horns with each other for one last time in the series in Sydney which is slated to kick off from January 3, 2025.
