Indian team management face a conundrum ahead of the Perth Test as Shubman Gill sustained a thumb injury during the match simulation at the WACA. While Gill looks set to miss the first Test, bowling coach Morne Morkel clarified that a final call is yet to be taken. Morkel and the team management is hoping that Gill recovers before the Perth Test.
"He (Gill) is improving on day-by-day basis. We will take a call on the morning of the Test. He played well in the match simulation in the build up. So fingers crossed," Morkel said in the press conference on November 20.
Gill departed for 28 on the first attempt in the match simulation. Later, he returned and remained unbeaten for 42. It was on second day of match simulation when he injured his thumb fielding in the slip cordon.
