Back-in-form Steve Smith had a hilarious answer to a bizarre rapidfire set up by ABC Sport. Ahead of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, several Australian cricketers were asked to describe Indian team, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) and the International Cricket Council (ICC). Smith had a controversial answer to the question as said that ICC is "not as powerful" as the richest cricket board in the world, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In total seven Australian cricketers were part of the rapidfire round. Australian captain Pat Cummins described all three as "big". In-form batter Travis Head who has been India's headache in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 said that BCCI are "rulers" and ICC are "second" to them.
Nathan Lyon called ICC the "boss" whereas Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey and Smith labelled the BCCI as "powerful". Then Smith went on to say that ICC are "not as powerful" triggering laughter in the room.
However, he quickly took back his words and said, “No, no I can't say that. It was a joke.” Later, he described them as "leaders".
Why Khawaja chose to pass the question?
Meanwhile, Australia's out-of-form Usman Khawaja chose to respond by saying "pass". Khawaja has been reprimanded by the ICC for showing his support for the Palestinians. The left-handed batter used their colours on his bat during a practice session but was told to take it off when he came out to bat in the Test.
Later, he was refused to display a dove but wasn't allowed by the apex cricket board. In response, he took to social media and posted pictures of bats of other international players using religions symbols and other messages.
"Merry Christmas everybody, sometimes you just gotta laugh ... #inconsistent doublestandards," he expressed via his Instagram account.
