After India's third Test match against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane, former Australian captain Aaron Finch sent a humorous message to Ravi Ashwin, who had announced his retirement from international cricket. Finch recalled an instance in 2020 when Ashwin gave him a run-out warning during an Indian Premier League (IPL) game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals.
Finch's wish for Ashwin
Ashwin warned Finch during a game between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Ashwin and Finch have also been part of the same franchise together during their time at Punjab Kings (PBKS) back in 2018.
Finch captioned his Instagram story by writing "One of the all time careers. Congratulations R Ashwin. It was a pleasure to play with and against you. PS: Thanks for not running me out this day!”
Ashwin will play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the next Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament, despite Finch's retirement from competitive cricket. The experienced off-spinner cost the Super Kings INR 9.75 crore.

Following the draw in the Gabba Test between Australia and India, Ashwin declared his intention to retire. Ashwin grabbed just one wicket in the Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Test after missing the Perth Test. In the Brisbane Test, Ashwin did not make the playing XI.
"This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats of the game at the international level. I do feel there is a bit of punch left in me in as a cricketer. I would like to showcase that in club-level cricket. So this will be my last day. I have had a lot of fun. I must say I've created a lot of memories alongside Rohit and several of my teammates," Ashwin said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Ashwin has announced retirement from all formats of international cricket as the seventh-highest Test wicket-taker in the history of cricket. He has taken 537 wickets in 106 Test matches which also includes 37 five-wicket hauls.
