Rohit Sharma-led India are currently in Brisbane preparing for the upcoming third Test match against Australia which is scheduled to take place at The Gabba Stadium from December 14. India who defeated Australia during their last outing at the venue will look to repeat the same in the upcoming clash.
Rohit Sharma-led side are coming to the third match after facing a humiliating 10-wicket loss in the pink ball Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Since India's defeat in the second Test match, there are speculations that young players who are featuring in the series might be under more pressure. Gill who was one of India's key batters during the last edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy hosted by Australia said that the young generation doesn't think about the ball.
"You'll be only afraid if you have not won. We have won here last time and even in India. This generation doesn't think about who's bowling and just looks at the ball" said Gill during India's pre-match conference.
Gill also reckoned that the batters need to stay mentally focussed throughout the innings to score runs as Australia have a history of fast bowlers and fast, lively pitches.
"The conditions are challenging, but between the 35th over and the second new ball, batting becomes a bit easier. However, given Australia's history with fast bowlers and the fast, lively pitches here, you need to stay mentally focused throughout your innings" Gill also said.
The ongoing Test match is important for India to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Rohit Sharma-led side needs to win the remaining three matches against Australia the seal their spot in the WTC final which is scheduled to take place in England next year.
