Bangladesh have been dealt with a huge blow ahead of three-match ODI series against India as their in-form pacer Taskin Ahmed has been ruled out of the 1st ODI due to recurring back pain.

Taskin pulled off the best bowling performance of 4/25 against Netherlands in T20 World Cup 2022. He created chances in other games as well but was let down by poor fielding. In the first ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka, Ebadot Hossain may be seen bowling with the new ball. However, Shoriful Islam has been called as back-up for the first ODI.

"Taskin is ruled out from the opening game of the ODIs as his back pain recurred," Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz on December 1. "We wil be seeing his progress before taking further decision regarding his participation," he added.

On the other hand, ODI captain Tamim Iqbal picked up a groin injury in the warm-up game on November 30.

"We are waiting for Tamim's scan report. He had a groin injury and physican asked him to have a scan to take a decision about his availability," Minhajul revealed.

Iqbal has a decent record against India in ODIs with 596 runs from 18 innings at an average of 33.11 including seven half-centuries. On the other hand, Taskin has 12 wickets from just six ODIs at an average of 17.16 including best bowling figures of 5/28.
