Team India's pocket-size dynamo Ishan Kishan exploded at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, and the sound of explosion echoed throughout the cricket fraternity. The left-handed power-hitter smashed a stunning double-century and shattered several records in the third ODI against Bangladesh on December 10 (Saturday). Kishan came into the lineup to replace injured captain Rohit Sharma and grabbed his opportunity with both hands to put India in the driving seat.
The 24-year-old played an outrageous knock of 210 runs in 131 balls and trounced Bangladesh's bowling attack without breaking a sweat. During his majestical knock, the southpaw whacked 24 fours and 10 sixes. Kishan put on an absolute masterclass of stroke-making and swaggered his way into the record books. The left-handed batter became the fastest double-centurion in ODI cricket, breaking West Indies legend Chris Gayle's record.
Kishan reached the milestone with a single on the off-side and his celebration revealed what the knock meant to him. The southpaw set off in ecstasy. both arms in the air and a huge roar of delight.
Interestingly, the Patna-born cricketer was not content with a double hundred. After India's innings, Kishan admitted that with 15 overs still remaining from the time he was dismissed, he missed out on a triple century.
"The wicket was too good to bat on. My intent was very clear - if the ball is there, I'll go for it. I'm blessed to hear my name amid such legends. Still feel when I got out - 15 overs were left. Could've scored 300 also. Batting with Virat (Kohli) bhai, he has such (a) good sense of the game. He was calming me down when I was in my 90s. I wanted to bring it up with a six, but he said to get it in singles as it's your first. I didn't take too much pressure on myself. Just wanted to make use of the opportunity," Kishan told host broadcasters.
