In the opening session of Day 2 on December 23 (Friday) between India versus Bangladesh second Test in Dhaka, former India captain and maverick batter Virat Kohli was left furious after he survived a close run-out chance. The incident occurred on the last ball before the Lunch break when Kohli flicked the ball towards mid-on and set off for a quick single. Rishabh Pant, who was at the non-striker's end, took a couple of steps and then sent his former captain back. Kohli was already halfway down the pitch but managed to get back into the crease in just the nick of time with a desperate dive.
Kohli immediately looked back at Pant and gave the wicketkeeper-batter a furious stare. Pant walked towards the veteran batter before the two set off for the dressing room.

Meanwhile, India ended the session with a score of 86/3 on the board, trailing Bangladesh by 141 runs with Kohli (18 not out off 65) balls) and Pant (12 not out off 14 balls) holding India's fort. The visitors began Day 2 at 19/0 with captain KL Rahul and Shubman Gill at the crease. The duo could only add eight more runs to the overnight score before Rahul (10 runs off 45 balls) was trapped in front of the sticks by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. Gill (20 runs off 39 balls) failed to convert his start into a substantial score and handed Taijul his second scalp of the morning.
Cheteshwar Pujara (24 runs off 55 balls) became the eighth Indian batter to score 7,000 runs in Test cricket before Bangladesh's left-arm spinner sent the Indian veteran back to the pavilion.
