Well-established for his sheer pace which was on full display by the young tearaway from Jammu and Kashmir, Umran Malik delivered a thunderbolt that clocked up 151 kph and sent the stump flying. The spectators at the Shere Bangla Stadium on Wednesday were witness to the fiery delivery that was packed with blistering speed in the 2nd ODI of a three-match series.
Umran expectedly did not tinker with his pace and bowled every delivery at an alarming rate which had the Bangladeshi batters in a lot of discomfort early on. The batters he troubled included the star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who copped bouncers on his body after the hosts won the toss and chose to bat.
Early into his second spell, Umran deployed a nippy delivery which hit Shakib Al Hasan on the side of his hip after he tried to evade a short ball. However, the ball did not have much bounce as Shakib was expecting it to have, causing him grief. Shakib appeared to be in agony, but the skipper continued to bat.
He was not done there as he resumed the barrage of short balls and the final over of the delivery, Umran bowled a short one again and this time it made contact with Shakib's helmet. It was a brutal blow as Shaklb could not see it off this time around.
KL Rahul who is captaining the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma who sustained an injury in his finger in the 2nd ODI, dashed towards Shakib to check on him. Shakib was deemed fit to continue after the physios ran a quick test.
The testing pace from Umran did not abate as the J&K pacer sent the stumps cartwheeling in the first delivery of his second over. A struggling Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was trying to bring stability to the innings, faced the brute delivery and got bowled for 21. The ball beat Shanto's bat to the punch as he was late to defend the ball and the ball clattered into his off stump.
