Virat Kohli is a sparky character who has never shied away from being an entertainer off the pitch too. After clocking up his 72nd international century in the third ODI against Bangladesh in Chattogram, Kohli got the ball rolling in the nets. In the same venue which will host the first of two Test matches, the 34-year-old shared a lighthearted moment with his compatriot Axar Patel.
Kohli first put himself through his paces with some throwdowns and played some confident shots against the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav and Axar Patel. The session which lasted for 40 minutes had another 20 minutes added to it as Kohli decided to have another go in the nets and smacked Patel for a six and was later seen making fun of him.
Kohli was also seen having a word with young Shubman Gill who is poised to open for India in the first Test alongside stand-in skipper KL Rahul. This summarises Kohli's state of mind and how he has blown away the cobwebs of the rough patch. Kohli for the past three years struggled for form until his knocks recently which showed signs of his sublime touch with the bat.
Despite scoring a sundry number of the fifties, what lacked was a hundred and the perennial wait for it. The agonising wait came to an end after he struck his maiden century in T20I against Afghanistan in a dead rubber Asia Cup encounter. Few months later, he smashed a century in ODIs against Bangladesh which herald his return to form.
However Kohli's draught of centuries in the Test circuit continues as his Test last century came against the same opponent, India are set lock horns with on Wednesday (December 14). Kohli smashed a day-night Test match ton against Bangladesh which was played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in November 2019. Since then he has been in the hunt for three figures and something he will have his eyes to ending the century drought in the longest format as well. It will be a big boost for India as they need a clean sweep to remain in contention of World Test Championship (WTC) final race.
