In a major jolt to Team India, skipper Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid-19 right ahead of the rescheduled Test against England which is slated to be played from July 1 at Edgbaston, as Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) confirmed the development on Sunday's morning, following the end of Day 3 of the ongoing warm-up game between India and Leicestershire.&nbsp;"UPDATE - #TeamIndia Captain Mr Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday. He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team," said BCCI's official statement.&nbsp;The 35-year-old Indian skipper is expected to open the innings alongside Shubman Gill in the Test match and his participation would now depend on result of his RT-PCR test and recovery.&nbsp;Rohit was part of the Indian team in the ongoing warm-up game against Leicestershire, but didn't come to bat during Day 3 even as the side lost seven wickets, scoring 364 by the end of the day's play.&nbsp;In the first innings, Rohit scored 25 runs before being dismissed by Roman Walker. He also took the field on the second day as India bowled Leicestershire out on 244. The Indian captain now faces a race against time in order to make a full recovery before the scheduled start of India's fifth and final Test of the series against England on July 1 in Edgbaston.&nbsp;Rohit is currently the highest scorer for India in the series, with 368 runs in four matches at an impressive average of 52.27. If Rohit Sharma fails to recover in time for the fifth Test, India will take the field without both of their first-choice openers as KL Rahul has already been ruled out of the series with an injury.&nbsp;Earlier, on Day 3 of the warm-up game against Leicestershire, Team India produced an improved batting performance with Shreyas Iyer (62), Ravindra Jadeja (56*), and Virat Kohli (67) slamming half-centuries. With Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj (1*) remained unbeaten at the end of day's play.&nbsp;Earlier, India's ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin missed the flight with the India Test squad to the UK after testing positive for Covid-19 however he later recovered from the virus and joined India's squad of late. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The rescheduled fifth Test will act as a decider for the five-Test series that started in July 2021. India were leading 2-1 and before they could take on England in the fifth Test in Manchester, their contingent was hit with a series of COVID-19 cases and eventually the match was deferred. Both Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England Cricket Board (ECB) mutually decided to reschedule the fifth Test in 2022, where India were already scheduled to play white-ball fixtures.&nbsp;KL Rahul, however, will miss the tour this time because of a groin injury, which had also ruled him out of the series against South Africa. His absence opened the door for Gill to open for India.&nbsp;India's tour of England also comprises three T20Is and as many ODIs, and the visitors will play two warm-up matches against Derbyshire and Northamptonshire before the white-ball series.&nbsp;<h3>India’s squad for the rescheduled fifth Test vs England:</h3>Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Srikar Bharat (wk).

The BCCI, late on Sunday morning, confirmed that India's regular all-format skipper Rohit Sharma tested positive for Covid-19.

Massive blow to Team India as Rohit Sharma tests Covid positive, doubtful for England Test

The four-day warm-up game between India and Leicestershire ended in a dull draw on June 26. Apart From Shubman Gill’s half-century and Ravichandran Ashwin returning to the field, there was no other highlight of the day. The big positive was Ashwin bowling as he recently recovered from Covid-19 before flying to England. <h3>Gill, Ashwin battle it out</h3>Chasing a target of 367, Gill walked out to open the innings for Leicestershire with Hasan Azad. Gill batted for both Indian and Leicestershire. On Day 4, he got the much-needed practice. Earlier in the game, batting for India, he got off to good starts but could not score a half-century. Batting against Indian bowlers, he scored at a strike rate over 80 for his 62 runs off 77 balls. Gill hit eight fours and two sixes. He danced down the track and hit Ashwin for a six as well. However, Ashwin had the last laugh and got his wicket. Later, Ashwin got the wicket of Leicestershire skipper Samuel Evans (26) as well. Like Gill, Hanuma Vihari batted for Leicestershire as well. Vihari took a cautious approach but eventually edged one off Ravindra Jadeja to wicketkeeper Srikar Bharat. Vihari scored 26 runs. Earlier, Shardul Thakur got the wicket of Azad. <h3>Leicestershire batter's gritty knock</h3>The only Leicestershire batter who stood up to the task was Louis Kimber. The 25-year-old batter stayed unbeaten for 58 runs off 86 deliveries and did not let Indian bowlers dominate. On the other hand, Joey Evison remained not out for 15. The Day 4 did not go on all the way to the last hour as players of both teams called it a draw. Leicestershire were 219/4 before the play was called off. <h3>9 bowlers used in a day</h3>Indian bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was seen leading the troops in the absence of Covid-positive Rohit Sharma. As many as nine bowlers were used in the day. Shreyas Iyer rolled his arm as well bowling medium pace. While India faced a major blow in form of Rohit contracting the virus, the big positives from the practice match included Virat Kohli scoring a half-century and Mohammed Shami doing the damage with the new ball.&nbsp;On the other hand, there were a few confusing moments as well when on Day 3, Jadeja and Iyer came to bat twice in an innings.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli engaged in a heated argument with an Indian fan who was not happy with youngster Kamlesh Nagarkoti not agreeing to get clicked during the first session of the warm-up game on Day 3. Nagarkoti was fielding for Leicestershire when the incident happened. Kohli, who was standing in the balcony, confronted the fan for his request. "Kabse bula rha hoon, photo he nahi khicha raha. Mai meri job choddh ke yaha aaya hu. Kam se kam photo to khichwana chahie. Nagarkoti ko bula raha hoon ("I've been continuously asking for a photo. I came here after taking the day off from my office. So, I've been calling Nagarkoti to click a photo with me at least)" the fan can be heard saying in the video that is making rounds on social media. "Match khelne aaya hai ya photo khichwane aaya hai (Is he here to play the match or click photos)," Kohli gave a stern reply to the fan. Nagarkoti did not get to bowl in the first innings on Day 1. The former Under-19 World Cup-winner bowled on Day 3 and got the wicket of Shardul Thakur, who was promoted up the order. Thakur misjudged the length and got bowled by the 22-year-old. On Day 3, Kohli did not walk out to bat at his usual no.4 position. He came to bat at no.7 and stitched a crucial partnership with Shardul Thakur. Earlier, in the first innings, the 33-year-old got off to a good start but could not capitalise. He was trapped in front of the stumps by Roman Walker, who picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings and made headlines. He could score 33 runs from 69 deliveries in the first innings. In the second innings, skipper Rohit Sharma held himself back and let other Indian batters bat ahead of India's rescheduled Test against England at Edgbaston Birmingham starting July 1.

India will begin their preparations for the rescheduled fifth Test against England with a practice match against Leicestershire that will kick off on June 23 at the Leicestershire County Ground. The four-day match is important to India's preparations as many of the star players have not played much competitive red-ball cricket, last facing Sri Lanka in March. Meanwhile, England will be heading into the contest after facing the world champions New Zealand in a three-match series. In more surprising news, Leicestershire confirmed on Wednesday that four players from the Indian team — Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna — will be playing against India in the practice match. These four players will turn be playing for Leicestershire, which will be led by Sam Evans. "LCCC, BCCI, and the ECB have all agreed to allow the four players from the visiting camp to be part of the Running Foxes side, in order to allow all members of the traveling party to participate in the fixture (subject to fitness)," Leicestershire said in a statement. "The match will be played with 13 players per side to provide further flexibility and help manage bowling workloads," he added.&nbsp; Rohit Sharma will lead India in the warm-up match as he gears up for his first overseas Test as the skipper of the senior national team. India will be without KL Rahul, who is out with a groin injury sustained just before the recently-concluded T20I series against South Africa at home. Leicestershire also confirmed that Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently recovered from Covid-19, is yet to arrive in the UK, and that the off-spinner will not be part of the warm-up match. Ashwin missed his flight to England after testing positive even as the rest of his teammates left Mumbai on June 16.
