India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has reportedly suffered a knee injury while training in the gym on Sunday ahead of the fourth Test against England. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Reddy had gotten scans done after injuring his knee and they revealed that the 22-year-old had damaged his ligament.
Reddy will not be featuring in fourth Test
The injury has ruled Reddy out of the fourth Test according to a latest report from Sports Tak. This comes as nothing short of a massive blow for Team India as the all-rounder had featured in the second and third Test of the series against England that were held at Edgbaston and Lord's respectively. The youngster may not be in a great form with the bat, but he did pick three big wickets for the side in the third Test.
This ain't the first injury blow for India as left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh recently got ruled out of the series after injuring his hand while bowling in the nets. It is expected that he will at least take 10 days to fully recover which means that he won't be able to make his Test debut in the ongoing five-match series against the Three Lions. In his place, pacer Anshul Kamboj has been brought into the squad.
Additionally, both Rishabh Pant and Akash Deep can also end up missing the fourth Test due to injuries. The former sustained an injury to his left index finger during the Test at Lord's which saw him being unable to keep the wickets for the team. On the other hand, Akash Deep had suffered a groin injury during the third Test and that is why he also didn't participate in a net session that was held before the team left for Manchester.
It now remains to be seen what changes will the Indian team management decide to make to the playing XI for the fourth Test that is set to commence from July 23 at Old Trafford. These injuries can end up massively hampering the Men in Blue's chances of emerging victorious in the upcoming match.
Notably, any result other than a win in the fourth Test will see India lose all their chances of triumphing the series. Moreover, if England manage to win in Manchester, then they will go on to seal the series even before playing the fifth and final match.
