Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped two catches against England on Day 2

Sunil Gavaskar criticized Jaiswal for his poor fielding effort

Though India utterly dominated against England on the first day of the Headingley Test thanks to a brilliant batting display, the hosts clawed their way back into the game on Day 2. The Three Lions first ended up bundling out the Men in Blue for 471 runs though they looked set to cross the 500-run mark after centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. Following this, the hosts finshed the day on 209/3 with Ollie Pope unbeaten on 100 and Harry Brook yet to open his account.

India dropped three catches in the field during Day 2

However, India should have bagged more wickets during the day if they would have fielded well. They put down a total of three catches with Jaiswal dropping Ben Duckett first in the fifth over. The left-hander was dropped again in the seventh over, this time by Ravindra Jadeja before Jaiswal also ended up putting down Pope's catch, who later went on to slam a hundred.

Following this poor fielding display, legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar criticized the Men in Blue and pointed fingers at Jaiswal in particular. He further went on to label India's fielding effort as 'very disappointing'.

"I don't think there will be any medal given. T Dillip gives those after a match. This is what was really very, very disappointing. Yashasvi Jaiswal is a very good fielder but he hasn't been able to hold on to anything this time," Gavaskar said while commentating.

Coming to the match, India began the day on a very strong position at 259/3. It looked as if they would easily go past the 500-run mark however, following Gill's wicket, the batting order fell like a pack of cards. The Men in Blue ended up losing seven wickets for just 41 runs as England got back into the game thanks to four-wicket hauls from both Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue.

In reply, the hosts didn't have a great start as Jaspit Bumrah dismissed Zak Crawley for just four runs, however Duckett and Pope formed a brilliant stand of 122 runs. The former would eventually lose his wicket for 62 as the star India pacer struck once again. Pope would go on to score a magnificent ton before Bumrah would take the huge wicket of Joe Root for 28 runs to wrap up an eventful day. England currently trail by a massive 261-run margin and will be relying on their batters to form a massive first-inning total just like India.
