Jamie Smith hit a brilliant fifty on Day 2 of the Lord's Test

The first session of Day 2 at Lord's saw India dominate during the first few overs mainly thanks to an incredible bowling display from Jasprit Bumrah. The pace spearhead dismissed the likes of Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Chris Woakes in a matter of just two overs to restrict England to 271/7 at one stage. However, the duo of Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse lead England's fightback and helped them in heading into the break on 353/7.

The duo's stand provided some much-needed stability and haunted the Men in Blue for most of the first session. However, KL Rahul did have the chance of not letting the partnership develop but he messed up big time. During the 87th over, right after Bumrah had dismissed Stokes, India had a big chance of getting Smith's wicket for cheap. But, as the batter edged Mohammed Siraj's delivery straight towards Rahul in the slip cordon, the fielder made a big mistake and grassed the catch.

Rahul missed a golden chance of dismissing Smith

As Rahul dropped the easy catch and provided Smith with a major lifeline, Siraj was seen fuming. The pacer couldn't hide his disappointment as he and the rest of the team knew that they had missed out on a golden chance of getting rid of Smith.

This drop would go on to cost India big time as Smith, who had played fantastic knocks of 184 and 88 in the first and second inning respectively in the Edgbaston Test, went on to score his second fifty of the series right before the conclusion of the session.

Carse also contributed well to England's total with his cameo of 33 as his 82-run stand with Smith lead the hosts to 353/7 before the break. It remains to be seen how far the duo will be able to take the team as the play resumes for the second session.
