Veteran India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's incredible effort with the bat in the Lord's Test against England may have gone in vain, but he did manage to break several records with his performance. The all-rounder faced a massive 181 deliveries during India's final inning of the Test and gave it his all in order to take the visitors to the target of 193.
Jadeja couldn't get India over the finishing line
However, his efforts eventually ended up going in vain as except for him, all other Indian batters lost their wickets and the team fell 22 runs short of what could have been one of their most impressive run-chases in history. Though the Men in Blue failed to register the victory, the 36-year-old's robust knocks of 72 and 61 in the first and second innings respectively saw him cross the 7,000-run mark in international cricket.
Elsewhere, Jadeja also joined Rishabh Pant and Sourav Ganguly in an elite list and became only the third Indian player with four or more successive fifty-plus scores in England. In the second Test of the ongoing series at Edgbaston, Jadeja had recorded scores of 89 and 69 in the first and second innings respectively. Further on, the all-rounder also became just the second Indian player after Vinoo Mankad to register fifty-plus scores in both the innings at Lord's.
Jadeja also overtook VVS Laxman (28 scores) in the list of most fifty-plus scores for India while batting at number six or below. The all-rounder has now registered 29 fifty-plus scores in his Test career while batting at No.6 or below and is only behind Kapil Dev (35 scores) and MS Dhoni (38 scores).
It is turning out to be a brilliant series for the 36-year-old with the bat. He has so far scored 327 runs in six innings at an average of 109.00. Jadeja already has four fifties under his name and will be looking to increase his tally as the series progresses.
Meanwhile, with the 22-run victory, England took a 2-1 lead in the five-match series heading into the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. With there being a 9-day gap in between the third and fourth match, the Men in Blue have a decent amount of time to decide if they will be making changes to their playing XI or not. The upcoming match is very crucial for Shubman Gill & Co. as a loss this time would see England seal the series even before playing the fifth Test.
