Bumrah's hellfire spell, Rohit-Dhawan's record partnership help India register first 10-wicket ODI win over England

The Jasprit Bumrah storm blew England away in their backyard to help India register their first ever ODI win over England by 10 wickets in ODI format. Bumrah’s record-breaking 6/19 helped India bundle out England for 110 in 25.2 overs. Indian openers made short work of the run chase at Kennington Oval, London to stun England in the first ODI of the three-ODI series.

Easy run chase

Chasing a non-threatening total of 111, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan did not struggle at all. Rohit and Dhawan shared an 114-run partnership to win the match with 31.2 overs to spare. Rohit scored an unbeaten 58-ball 76 including six fours and five sixes to finish the run chase early. On the other end, Dhawan played second fiddle and scored 31 runs from 54 deliveries.

Feats achieved

Rohit became the first touring batter to register 14 fifty-plus scores in England in ODIs. The 114-run partnership also helped Rahul and Dhawan to become the fourth pair in ODI cricket to score 5,000 runs for opening wicket.

Bumrah’s hurricane spell

Earlier, Rohit won the toss and elected to field first. In overcast conditions, Indian seamers made the new ball talk. Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in his first over and got opener Jason Roy and former skipper Joe Root out for their respective ducks.

In his second over, Mohammed Shami joined the party as well by getting Ben Stokes out for a duck. This is only the second instance where three of England's top four batters bagged ducks in an ODI. Bumrah continued to hunt for wickets with the new ball and got the wicket of in-form Jonny Bairstow in his sixth over.

Bumrah would have bagged a fifer in his first spell itself but Rishabh Pant dropped a half chance of Moeen Ali.

Shami strikes after powerplay

England could not recover from the batting collapse. Prasidh Krishna got the wicket of Ali in his second over. Shami got the wicket of England skipper. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 30 runs from 32 deliveries including six boundaries. Shami struck again to get the wicket of Craig Overton.

The crucial partnership

In the 17th over, England found themselves 68/8 and feared registering their lowest total in the format. But David Willey and Brydon Carse saved England from further embarrassment. They shared a crucial 35-run partnership for the ninth wicket to get England past the score of 100.

Bumrah wraps it up

But once again, Bumrah came back into the attack and broke the partnership with the wicket of Carse (15). He wrapped up England's innings too with the wicket of Willey in the 26th over. England could manage to get only 110 on the board. 25.2 overs is the least amount of overs England have faced to get all out in ODIs.
