India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continues to dazzle with the ball for Team India after returning from a long injury layoff. The seasoned pacer was instrumental in leading India to their second successive win against Ireland to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match T20I contest.
Under Bumrah's leadership, the team exhibited cohesive gameplay, with the captain himself delivering a phenomenal bowling spell. Bumrah clinched two significant wickets while conceding just 15 runs. His expertise was particularly evident during the death-over bowling, as he successfully delivered a maiden over, preventing Ireland from scoring any runs. This accomplishment marked his 10th maiden over in T20Is equalling Bhuvneshwar Kumar's all-time record. This was the joint-highest by any bowler in the format. Notably, Bumrah reached this milestone in 25 fewer matches than Kumar.
Interestingly, Uganda's Frank Nsubuga holds the record of bowling highest number of maiden overs in T20Is i.e 15 but his team isn't a full-time member of the ICC or has played in the T20 World Cup. Yet, it's essential to mention that Uganda isn't a full member of the ICC and hasn't participated in the T20 World Cup.
Bumrah's exceptional performance in the match also saw him overtaking Hardik Pandya in terms of wickets, establishing himself as India's third leading wicket-taker in T20Is. He boasts an impressive tally of 74 wickets in this format.
India's triumphant win against Ireland was further highlighted by the 33-run margin of victory in the second T20 International. This win gives India an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
While batting, India set a formidable target of 185/5. The batting lineup witnessed commendable contributions from vice-captain Ruturaj Gaikwad with a quickfire 58 off 42 balls, Sanju Samson's efficient 40 off 26, and Rinku Singh's swift 38 off just 21 balls.
Facing this substantial score, Ireland could only muster a total of 152/8. Apart from Bumrah's remarkable figures, Prasidh Krishna and Ravi Bishnoi also contributed to the bowling attack, taking 2 wickets for 29 and 37 runs, respectively.
