India’s 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set to make his T20I debut on Ireland tour. After a 29-ball 94 in the tri-series final for India A against Sri Lanka A, Sooryavanshi got the Team India jersey studded with three stars for three T20 World Cup title wins. The youngster said that he was lost for words as he realised his dream of getting the Team India jersey.
“It feels like a dream. The moment I saw the jersey, I was so happy. I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes, things happen in your life that you never even imagine, and when they do, you are unable to react. That was exactly my reaction," Sooryavanshi said in the video posted by the BCCI.
Sooryavanshi has become the player no. 532 to make his debut for India. Team India's throwdown specialist Raghu knocked on Sooryavanshi's door and gave him the package which had the Team India jersey. The youngster greeted him and touched his feet like he always does while meeting his elders.
Sooryavanshi warms up for UK tour in record-breaking style
Sooryavanshi recently scripted history as he scored the fastest fifty in List A (One-Day) cricket history. Against Sri Lanka A, he reached his half-century from just 11 balls. He went on to score 94 runs from 29 balls, taking the game away from the hosts in the first powerplay overs itself. He whacked 10 fours and eight sixes before departing in the ninth over. Tilak Varma-led India A posted 377/9 and beat Sri Lanka A by 66 runs.
Sooryavanshi to make T20I debut on June 26?
Sooryavanshi is set to become the youngest Indian to make international debut for the senior side. In men’s cricket, the record belongs to legendary Sachin Tendulkar. In women’s cricket, current opener Shafali Verma holds the record.
On June 26 in Belfast, it will be interesting to see who sits out to make way for Sooryavanshi. Either Sanju Samson or Abhishek Sharma will warm the bench if the young southpaw makes his T20I debut. If not, he may make his T20I debut in the second T20I of the series on June 28. Sooryavanshi has been picked for five T20Is against England and Asian Games 2026 as well.
Milestone awaits Sooryavanshi
After a record-breaking IPL 2026 season for Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi is 23 runs away from completing 1,500 runs in T20 cricket.
In the history of T20Is, no player from a full-member nation has scored a century on debut. The record for top score belongs to Australia's Ricky Ponting who scored an unbeaten 98 against New Zealand in 2025. While the left-handed batter doesn't shy away from taking the aerial route even when he is in his 90s, he has a chance to dominate the Ireland bowling attack.
