FIFA World Cup 2026
The biggest sporting spectacle on the planet, FIFA World Cup 2026, kicks off on June 11 (June 12, as per IST). For the very first time, the showpiece tournament is expanding to feature a massive lineup of 48 teams. Co-hosted across North America by the USA, Mexico, and Canada, this mega-carnival will treat us to a whopping 104 matches packed into 39 intense days.
Mexico makes history as the first nation to host or co-host the tournament three times. Canada is celebrating its grand debut as a World Cup host nation. Argentina enters the tournament with a massive target on their back as the defending champions.
A Brand-New Format: More Drama, Higher Stakes
With more teams comes a total shakeup of the traditional tournament structure. The old eight-group setup is officially history, making way for a much more competitive format.
The 48 teams have been split into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group, alongside the eight best third-placed teams, will survive to play in the knockouts. To accommodate the extra teams, a high-stakes Round of 32 has been introduced before we even get to the traditional Round of 16.
Map of the Matches: 16 Host Cities
The tournament will stretch across 16 world-class venues, ensuring a truly continental vibe:
