Talking about the first ODI between India and New Zealand, Men in Blue's openers Shikhar Dhawan (72) and Shubman Gill started off well, stitching a 124-run partnership. Shreyas Iyer (80) then picked up from where Gill (50) left and went onto a fifty before Tim Southee denied him from reaching a century. Towards the end, Washington Sundar's quickfire knock of 37 not out off 16 balls powered India to 306/7.
In reply, India dismissed New Zealand openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway early on. Unran Malik, who made his ODI debut alongside Arshdeep Singh, took two wickets - Conway and Daryl Mitchell - before getting hammered by Williamson (94*) and Latham (145*). The New Zealand batters wrecked havoc on India bowlers, stitching an unbeaten partnership of 221 runs for the fourth wicket.
