The verbal sparring between Michael Vaughan and Wasim Jaffer has already begun, even before the start of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Known for their entertaining social media exchanges, the former Indian batter Jaffer and ex-England captain Vaughan have once again engaged in a war of words.
These two cricket legends never miss an opportunity to publicly troll each other on social media. Their sharp wit and quick retorts have consistently kept fans entertained. Now, even before the start of India's crucial five-match Test series against Australia, Vaughan and Jaffer have reignited their online rivalry.
Regardless of whether England is involved or not, whenever the Indian cricket team takes the field, Vaughan and Jaffer's entertaining rivalry takes center stage. Their humorous exchanges always captivate fans, and the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is no exception.
Even before the first Test in Perth on Friday, November 22, Wasim Jaffer confidently asserted that Australia, not India, would be under pressure. This statement came despite India's recent 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand. While many believe India is under immense pressure to perform, Jaffer contends that Australia has more to prove in the upcoming series.
War of words between Wasim Jaffer and Michael Vaughan over BGT
As India gears up to face Australia in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, all eyes are on the team to rebound from their disappointing performance against New Zealand.
To support his claim, Jaffer highlighted India's impressive track record against Australia, both in India and on Australian soil. India's recent success, including victories in the last two Test series in Australia, has given them a significant psychological advantage heading into the Perth Test.
“I think there's more pressure on Aus than Ind. Aus hasn't beaten Ind in 10 years. They lost back to back at home. If they lose one more, heads are going to roll. They've few ageing superstars who won't get another crack at Ind if they lose. India has nothing to lose,” Wasim Jaffer wrote on X.

However, Michael Vaughan countered Jaffer by pointing out India's recent struggles in Test cricket, particularly their humiliating whitewash at home. He suggested that this recent form could hinder India's performance in Australia. With history, pride, and the chance for redemption on the line, Vaughan took a harsh swipe at India and Jaffer, stating that another whitewash in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 would be unacceptable.
“Of course India has something to lose, Wasim... they have just been whitewashed at home; they can’t afford another heavy beating,” Vaughan wrote on his X handle while replying to Jaffer's post.
