The third and final T20I between India and New Zealand came to a halt at a crucial stage. The rain interruption left both sides tied at the Duckworth Lewis Stern (DLS) par score of 75 at McLean Park, Napier.
Usually, a super over takes place in a T20 game when the scores are tied. However, if the rain does not allow any further play the game will end in a tie.
In case of a tie, India will win yet another bilateral T20I series as the Hardik Pandya-led side was leading by 1-0.
Despite wickets falling early in the powerplay overs, the run rate did not go down. Ishan Kishan got out to Adam Milne in the second over. Rishabh Pant departed for a 5-ball 11 to Tim Southee. The stand-in Kiwi skipper followed it up with the wicket of Shreyas Iyer for a golden duck with a short ball.
Skipper Pandya was attacking despite India losing three wickets for 21 runs in the third over. He hit three fours and one six to help India get close to the par score with his unbeaten 18-ball 30 before rain interrupted play. On the other end, Deepak Hooda scored a run-a-ball 9.
Had India not lost four wickets, they were well ahead of the par score as New Zealand struggled in the powerplay overs yet again.
