Following the seven-wicket hammering in the ODI opener, Team India's caravan reached Hamilton for the second match against New Zealand which will be played on Sunday (November 27).

After arrival, India's star left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who remained wicket-less in the first ODI, launched the bhangra steps as soon as he got off the bus along with the other team members. Team India won the three-match T20I series against New Zealand 1-0 but got off to a losing start in the ODI opener.  Indian bowlers crumbled in the face of Tom Latham's counter-attacking hundred as New Zealand rallied to crush India by seven wickets in the first ODI Friday.

Batting first, Shikhar Dhawan (72) and Shubman Gill (50) gave India a good start, stitching a 124-run partnership. Shreyas Iyer (80) then picked up from where Gill left and went onto a fifty before Tim Southee denied him from reaching a century. Towards the end, Washington Sundar's quickfire knock of 37 not out off 16 balls powered India to 306/7.

Later, India dismissed New Zealand openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway early on. Umran Malik, who made his ODI debut alongside Arshdeep Singh, took two wickets - Conway and Daryl Mitchell - before getting hammered by Williamson (94) and Latham (145). The New Zealand batters wrecked havoc on India bowlers, stitching an unbeaten partnership of 221 runs for the fourth wicket.

"We felt good with the total. The ball was seaming in the first 15 overs. This ground is a bit different than other grounds. We bowled a lot on a short of a length, and Latham attacked. We misfielded on a few balls," Dhawan said after the match.

"But as I said, we were quite short to Latham, and that's where he took the game away. He hit four boundaries in the 40th over, and that's where the game shifted. Surely lots of learning for the boys," he further added.
