Indian cricketer Deepak Chahar's participation in the upcoming South Africa tour is uncertain as he has revealed that he will only join the team once his father's health improves. Chahar, a right-arm pacer, was selected for both the One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) sides for the tour in South Africa.
Chahar was notably absent from the final T20 International against Australia, which took place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India was looking to conclude the series on a high note, leading 3-1. However, during the toss, India's interim captain Suryakumar Yadav announced that Chahar had to leave abruptly due to a medical emergency involving his father, who was in critical condition and had been taken to the hospital.
In an interview with Sports Tak, Chahar provided an update on his father's condition, stating that he is currently improving. He explained that he had informed coach Rahul Dravid and the selectors that he would stay back until his father recovered well.

Chahar expressed the importance of his father in his life, attributing his cricket success to him. He emphasized that he couldn't leave his father in such a condition and needed to be with him during this challenging time.
Responding to Sports Tak's queries about his return to the team to , Chahar mentioned that it depends on his father's health, and at the moment, he cannot leave him. He stated that once his father is out of danger, he will commence his journey to South Africa. However, he did not provide a specific date for joining the team, emphasizing that it hinges on his father's recovery.
"We got him to the hospital on time. Else, it could have been dangerous. His condition is better at the moment. People were asking, why I didn't play the final T20I against Australia. For me, my father is very important. He made me the player I am. I cannot leave him in this condition and couldn't go anywhere."
"That's why I am staying with my father and once he is out of danger, I will start my journey to South Africa. I have talked to Rahul (Dravid) sir and the selectors."
"Right now, my father's condition is better," said Chahar.
