India and South Africa are gearing up for the Test series against South Africa.

All eyes will be on India's bowling line-up which will miss the services of Mohammed Shami.

India's batting great Sunil Gavaskar has been closely monitoring the present generation of cricketers. With the Rohit Sharma-led India preparing for their Test series against South Africa, Gavaskar has evaluated the team's readiness for this big challenge. Regarding the young fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, Gavaskar is skeptical about his readiness to perform in the first Test against South Africa. Given Krishna's recent comeback from injury, Gavaskar questions whether he can sustain the longer bowling spells demanded by Test cricket.

"I am not sure about Prasidh Krishna. He has come back from an injury. If he is required to bowl 15-20 overs in the day, I am not sure if he will be able to do that. I hope he proves me wrong because if anybody proves me wrong, that means India are doing well and if India are doing well, I am very happy," Gavaskar said in a chat on Star Sports.

Regarding India's fast bowling lineup, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are definite selections for Gavaskar. For the remaining spots, Prasidh Krishna faces competition from Mukesh Kumar and Shardul Thakur.

"I believe Bumrah and Siraj pick themselves because of the way they have bowled over the last year and a half with the white ball and the red ball. So my opening bowlers would be them," he said.

India is expected to field a bowling attack comprising four fast bowlers and likely just one spinner, choosing between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

Shardul Thakur might play as the seam-bowling all-rounder, while either Mukesh Kumar or Prasidh Krishna is likely to be selected as the fourth pacer.

India's squad: Rohit Sharma (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, KS Bharat (wk), Abhimanyu Easwaran (2nd Test).

South Africa's squad: Temba Bavuma (captain), Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Dean Elgar, Keegan Petersen, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Tristan Stubbs (wk), Nandre Burger, Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, David Bedingham.
