Indian cricket star Suryakumar Yadav recently provided a reassuring update regarding his ankle injury, which occurred during India's third T20I against South Africa at Johannesburg's New Wanderers Stadium on December 14.
In a concerning moment for the Indian team, Suryakumar experienced an ankle twist while fielding during South Africa's chase in the third over. This prompted immediate attention from the team's physiotherapist who rushed onto the field. The Indian captain briefly left the field, handing over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja.
Post-match, Suryakumar alleviated concerns about his injury, stating it was "not that serious." This news comes as a relief for the Indian team as they gear up for the upcoming ODI series, which is set to commence on December 17.
"I am good. I am able to walk so it is not that serious," Suryakumar was quoted as saying druing post-match presentation ceremony.
Suryakumar has been in exceptional form recently, becoming only the third player in T20I history, alongside Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell, to score four centuries in the format. His latest ton, achieved in just 55 deliveries, further solidified his position as the world's top-ranked T20I batter.
"It was wonderful scoring a hundred, and especially when it comes in a winning cause," he added.
His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award, following India's resounding 106-run win. Additionally, Suryakumar surpassed Virat Kohli in hitting the most sixes for India in T20Is and is now on the brink of overtaking international stars like Aaron Finch and Chris Gayle in this regard.
Suryakumar, who hails from Mumbai, made his debut in T20Is in 2021 and has seen a meteoric rise in his career. His rapid scoring has made him a crucial member of the Indian batting lineup. Notably, he recently matched Virat Kohli's record as the joint-fastest Indian to reach the 2000-run milestone in T20Is, showcasing his consistent and impactful performances since his debut.
