Afridi thinks 'speaking face to face' is a solution for Kohli and BCCI

The recent turmoil in Indian cricket that involved Test team skipper Virat Kohli and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) became the central point of various heated debates. Now Pakistan cricket legend Shahid Afridi has spoken on this matter.

Afridi thinks that the issue could have been handled in a better way. He went on to add that the board plays the role of a father.

“This could have been handled in a better way. I always feel that the role of a cricket board is very important; it plays the role of a father. Whatever future plans a selection committee of a board has regarding a player, it communicates those plans to that player, like, 'Look, we have these plans, what are your plans? We want to do this and as a board, we see benefits from doing this,” Afridi was quoted while speaking to a Pakistan’s news channel.

Kohli recently created a massive controversy in Indian cricket after contradicting BCCI president Sourav Ganguly's comments, saying that he wasn't told to continue as the T20I captain unlike what the BCCI president said in one interview.

Ganguly claimed that he personally asked the Delhi-born batsman to not quit as the T20I skipper but Kohli denied having any such conversation with any BCCI official.

Speak face to face

Afridi feels that if the BCCI communicates through the media, then there will be problems. He concluded by saying that creating issues in the public will not solve the problem.

“If you communicate through the media, then there will be issues. If you sit in front of each other, speak face to face, then I think there can be solutions to problems. If you want to create issues out of something, then that doesn’t solve anything.”

The 44-year old retired from Test cricket in 2006 in order to focus more on the shortest format of the game. Though, he did comeback in Test cricket but just for one match. On the other hand, Afridi became the best player of ICC T20 World Cup’s inaugural edition (2007) and two years later he led his country to the title.

India will commence their South African tour with a three-match Test series and the first Test will start on December 26 at Centurion.
