The actual event

The incident took place in the 36th over of South African innings. Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was bowling and on the fourth delivery of his over Bavuma had played a shot that went straight to Kohli. After the collecting the ball, the Delhi-born batter who was standing at cover region, threw it back to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. But Proteas skipper was not seemingly happy with the way the ball was thrown as he came in the way.

Bavuma did not waste a minute in complaining about it and after seeing an angry Bavuma, Kohli decided to come back straightaway and he was seen having a heated exchange of words with the batsman. Though, nothing else happened after it.

Win for the Proteas

Batting first, the hosts were in early danger after losing two quick wickets. Skipper Bavuma and Russie van der Dussen then played a solid partnership of 204 runs (off 184 balls). Bavuma had scored 110 runs off 143 balls and his innings was comprised of 8 boundaries.

Van der Dussen on the other hand, remained not out after scoring 129 runs off 96 balls as his innings was consisted of 9 boundaries and 4 sixes. For his terrific batting display, the 32-year-old right-handed batsman was rewarded with the Man of the Match award as well.

In reply, Indian middle-order failed miserably. Indian team were bundled out for 265 for 8 in 50 overs as they suffered a 31-run defeat in the first ODI.
