Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli has finished another year without scoring a century in all formats of the game. In the ongoing Boxing Day Test against, Kohli could manage to score 35 and 18 in first and second innings respectively. This is the third year Kohli has not scored a century in his international career. Before 2020-21 period, the last century-less year for the Delhi-born batter was in 2008.
Statistics during drought of centuries
Not only the wait for Kohli’s 71st international ton continues, his form in red-ball cricket has taken a major hit. In the last two years, he has scored 652 runs from 14 Test at an average of 26.08. In this period, he has scored only five half-centuries with a high score of 74.
In the year 2021, the 33-year-old has scored 536 runs from 11 Tests at a slightly better average of 28.21. Four half-centuries came off his bat while donning the whites.
Almost every Kohli fan, critic knows that his last century came in November 2019 against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in the pink-ball Test.
On the other hand, his last ODI century came against West Indies in August 2019. However, he has had a good run in the white-ball format scoring eight half-centuries. He came close to breaching the three figures twice but got out for a score of 89 against Australia. In last two years, he has been India’s third-highest run-scorer in ODIs with 560 runs from 12 games at an average of 46.66.
Similar manner of dismissal
In the first innings, Kohli looked in control scoring 35 runs from 94 deliveries. But he was lured by Lungi Ngidi way outside offstump which Kohli went chasing and edged it to slip fielder Wiaan Mulder. He shared a crucial 82-run partnership for the third wicket after Ngidi’s double blow to send Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara off consecutive deliveries.
In the second innings, Kohli got out in a similar manner to different bowler. Chasing a wide delivery away from his body, Kohli went for a drive against debutant left-arm pacer and edged it to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock to lose his wicket. He faced 32 deliveries in the second innings.
