England pace bowler James Anderson, despite his team's Ashes Test series debacle, surged three places to No. 5 in the latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings.
Despite the poor form in the Ashes Test series Anderson has leapfrogged New Zealand's Neil Wagner, South Africa's Kagiso Rabada and Australia's Josh Hazlewood to climb to fifth in the bowling rankings.
Ashwin, Jadeja hold second spot
In the Test All-rounders' Rankings, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, despite missing India's three-Test series against South Africa due to injury, still continue to hold the second and third spots respectively behind West Indian Jason Holder.
India's new white-ball captain Rohit Sharma is ranked fifth in the batters' ranking, while India Test team skipper Virat Kohli is holding on to his seventh position in the category.
Australian pacer Mitchell Starc's super bowling display in the Ashes has paid off with a upwards movement in the all-rounders' category where he has climbed one place to fifth spot.
Climb for Starc
Starc moved up a spot to No.5 in the Test All-rounders' Rankings at the expense of English all-rounder Ben Stokes. Starc was in a sublime form with the red cherry in hand, scalping five wickets across two innings in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
He made a handy contribution with the bat after he managed to remain not out at 24 which eventually helped extend. Australia's lead to 82 runs.
Marcus Harris, who had endured a difficult series until the Boxing Day Test where he scored 76, climbed a whopping 29 spots and broke into the top-100 batters, sitting at No.83 in the latest rankings update.
Scott Boland's impressive Test debut
Australian Test debutant Scott Boland made his debut in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for bowlers for his amazing performance in the Boxing Day Test. He is now ranked 74th with 271 points.
Boland registered his name in the record books with a six-wicket haul that packed up the Ashes on day Three of the third Test. The 32-year-old pacer finished with outstanding innings figures of 6/7 in four overs.
In the batsman’s category, Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne continued to hold the top spot. Australia’s Steve Smith dropped a place to fourth, his lowest position since December 2015.
