Indian skipper Shubman Gill dismissed widespread speculation regarding a friction in dialogue between squad leadership and the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Whispers of miscommunication surfaced after three previously named players were abruptly sidelined from the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka. Addressing these claims during his pre-match press conference on Friday, Gill clarified that both entities remain in non-stop alignment regarding player rehab and injury management.

Gill addresses rumors surrounding BCCI CoE and Team Management
Gill explained that while monitoring recovering athletes is an ongoing, collaborative effort, the demanding nature of five-day cricket leaves no room for rushing players back into action. Illustrating this cautious approach, he cited the case of Sai Sudharsan, noting:
"There is a constant communication with them. Unfortunately Sai Sudharsan did not improve as much as we liked as we can't take risks in Tests. But we are confident of our 15."
Ultimately, the captain emphasised that avoiding long-term risks outweighs short-term availability, expressing complete faith in the squad selected for the series opener.
Bumrah's absence, a chance for others to shine: Gill
Meanwhile, Gill dropped several key indicators regarding the team's balance ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka, particularly in the bowling department. With Jasprit Bumrah sidelined by a knee issue, Gill highlighted that this series serves as a crucial platform for other seamers to prove their mettle, reiterating:
"Jasprit Bumrah is not here, but it is an opportunity for someone to step up. It is all about understanding the pace of the game."
Mohammed Siraj is locked in as the primary fast bowler, leaving Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar competing for the second seamer slot. Acknowledging the dilemma, Gill noted Brar’s efficiency and bounce with the older ball alongside Krishna’s impressive rhythm during practice games. Complementing the pace attack, India is anticipated to field a triple-spin combination featuring Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Manav Suthar.
