India have been given a revised target in the second T20I against Sri Lanka due to rain delay at the Pallekele stadium on July 28.
Revised target for India
Rain interruptions has seen considerable deductions in overs and now India will have to chase down a target of 78 runs in a total of eight overs. Notably, match is set to resume at 22:45 IST. India have so far scored six runs in three balls which means they need to score 72 runs in the next 7.3 overs to win. There will be a two-over powerplay where each bowler can bowl a maximum of two overs.
India Restrict Sri Lanka to 161/9
Sri Lanka were restricted to 161/9 in their 20 overs, thanks to a tight bowling performance from India. Kusal Perera's half-century provided the backbone of the Sri Lankan innings, but Hardik Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi were instrumental in stemming the flow of runs in the death overs. Earlier, Arshdeep Singh had provided India with an early breakthrough by dismissing Kusal Mendis.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bowl first. The match, originally scheduled for a 7 PM IST start, was delayed by rain until 7:45 PM. Shubman Gill, a key player in India's first T20I win, was ruled out due to unavailability and replaced by Sanju Samson.
Earlier, after winning the toss, India captain Suryakumar Yadav, said:
“We will look to bowl first. There is a bit of weather around and the wicket played better in the second innings. There are always areas to improve even when you win a game, you keep learning and you keep improving. Gill misses out as he woke up with a back spasm, Samson comes in.”
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka after the toss, said:
“We are good to bat first. We have one change, Ramesh Mendis comes in for Dilshan Madhushanka. The first three batters really well and the only concern is the line of the bowlers. It is a used pitch and hopefully spin will come into play in the later part.”
