India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI ended in a tie.

Both teams could only score 230 runs.

The first ODI between Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team and Charith Asalanka's Sri Lanka, which was being played at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, on August 2 (Friday) ended in a tie. Both teams could only score 230 runs. However, many even see it as a win for the hosts as they managed to stop the Men in Blue win the match despite posting a low score. However, many fans are wondering why there was no Super Over in the first ODI, similar to the third T20I between India and Sri Lanka which was played in Pallekele.

Why there was no Super Over?

The first ODI match between India and Sri Lanka was tied, after which the end of the match was announced. As per the rules of ICC, if any T20 International match is tied in any tournament or even bilateral clashy, then there is a provision for Super Over. However, this is not the case in ODI cricket. Unless it is the tournament's knockout game.

Talking about ODI cricket, the provision of Super Over has been made only when there is a knockout or multi-national tournament in the ODI format. So far in the history of ODI cricket, Super Over has been implemented in only three matches. In which all the fans will remember the famous 2019 World Cup final between England and New Zealand. In this match, Super Over was also tied and the result was decided on the basis of boundary count. Apart from this, in 2020, a super over was played in the match between Zimbabwe and Pakistan. Then in the year 2023, in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifier match, a Super Over was played in the ODI match between West Indies and Netherlands.

Rohit Sharma-Gautam Gambhir duo eyes to open account

Well, the Men in Blue would try to put this tie behind them and bounce back with a win in the upcoming second ODI that will be played at the same venue in Colombo, on August 4 (Sunday). The Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir duo would be eyeing their first win together and to get an advantage in this series.
